Morgan County Kentucky has a populace of 13,724 as per the 2020 census. The county's governmental center is West Liberty. Morgan County, with its rich history, was founded in 1822, and was named in honor of General Daniel Morgan, a distinguished figure from the Revolutionary War.

The genesis of Morgan County can be traced back to 1822 when it was carved out of the lands of Bath County and Floyd County. Its first courthouse, speculated to have been a log structure, saw replacements first in 1868 after a fire, then again in 2012 following a tornado.

As recorded by the U.S. Census Bureau, Morgan County spans across a total area of 381 square miles (990 km2), of which 379 square miles (980 km2) is terrestrial and 2.3 square miles (6.0 km2) equating to 0.6% of the total, is water.
